overseeding prep

i just core aerated my lawn over the weekend.I was going to top dress with a mix of topsoil and compost but quickly realized that this was going to get very expensive at about 6000 sf. I didnt want to just broadcast the seed over the lawn with no soil contact, so I bought a dethatching blade that goes on the lawn mower. However, i think because I have a model with a blade clutch, it didnt fit. Should I just rent a seed slitter or is there another way. I was also wondering how those attachments that craftsman makes work. like the aerators and dethatchers that you tow.
