I live in Southern California and I don't know what kind of the Oak tree that I have.

lets try this.....

describe the leaf shape...are they small and more ovual shape...pointed at both ends?...or are they the larger more hand shaped leaves...hand used losely....either way...in General, Oaks are slow growers, especially when it comes to water demand.....if you live in an area where they rain faill is limited...your oak may show no growth for a few years.....and the truth is the same on the opposite side...

How large is it?

Oaks are very hearty...a few minor diseases to look for but some are life threatening.....

if you feel you would like to fertilize it, there are tree spikes you press into the ground all around the drip line of the tree....that is where the ends of the limbs are straight down to the ground....and depending on the size of the trunk may require a large amount.....

A little trivia....The Red oak is our national tree....was voted that by the public in 2001 I think....also....there are still oak trees standing that have been here so long they were 100 years old when Columbus discovered the Americas....

hope this helps
