New Grass and Fertilzer

It must be getting close to spring. I am already making plans for the lawn!
I want to lay some fertilizer, aerate, and overseed. I am concerned about the fertilzer and young grass. Can I fertilize and then immediately overseed, or should I wait a while ?

You can fertilize at the time that you seed, but not afterwards for 4-6 weeks or you'll burn the new grass seedlings.

There are combo fertilizers for spring that have crabgrass preventer and higher phosphorus for seed germination. Look for one of those for best results.

Use a starter fert. Some low in N and high in Phosphorus. Potassium is important to but need seedlings need High P for establishment. An organic will help you with the seedling development as well. I would seed and then fert with scotts starter.

Actually I agree with most of this but you do not want any kind of pre-emergent herbicide, even for crabgrass, near seed. And I would detatch or power rake, not pull plugs through aeration if I were overseeding. Seed is just going to fall down into the holes? Aerate mid-season this year.
