Just bought a new Stihl 291 since my 25-year-old 026 seems to have some fuel delivery problems and I have ice-storm damage to deal with right away. First impression on starting the 291 was, BOY IS THAT THING LOUD!!!
Being that the "safety police" seem to be involved in just about everything these days, I would have expected the new saw to be quieter. The 291 does have a slightly larger displacement than the old 026 (55 cc vs 50), but still... Is it possible the old saw was quiet just due to engine wear and lower compression? I'm basically worried the dealer may have not set up the saw correctly. Would running it too lean (pre-ignition) be a cause for extra noise?
Just wanted to run this by you folks before I start messing with the carb.
Thanks in advance.
