mulch against foundation???

I'm starting to get into everything now that this is my first home and my frist spring season. Right now I have grass all over the place and touching my foundation. I personally thought it wasnt good to have grass touching my foundation, but im not an expert. What my plans were was to remove about 1 ft or 2 ft from the foundation and add mulch or something else with some nice flowers and plants etc etc. But then my co worker told me that it isnt good to have mulch touching the foundation because of fires (cigarettes if there is a smoker over) and termites. I dont think this means anything but my water table is high so i wanted to pitch the 1 or 2 ft of space by my foundation away from the house. any ideas? plans? any pictures of nice border foundation setups? Thanks. I love being a home owner!

mulch against foundation???

Budget is not tight now, but close to tight. but if its worth it and nice then i would def do it but slowly i guess, take my time, start on it and finish it in a month worth of time this way it allows me to play more with money.

mulch against foundation???

Against your foundation
- hopefully cement or brick?
There are probably millions of houses out there both with muclh against the cement foundation & grass. You need approx 8" by code between the ground & the wood of the house. I prefer 12"

I prefer mulch & flowers approx 2' out at least from the house
I use very little mulch - barely enough to cover the area
On the East side I let moss grown to cover the ground
In other areas I use phlox as a ground cover
