Mountain Ash looks awful

Our Mountain Ash was full of berries all summer looking great ?
Now It looks like it's dying. As I recall it did this last year too.

I have a lot of ground cover around the base for about 8' ft in diameter.
Could this be affecting this. has had plenty of water.

I am located in Mich. just north of Detroit. I have seen other trees looking great. I wish I could post a picture. The leafs are dying big time.

Thanks
Robert
