Machine to remove sod and 6-10 inches topsoil

Hi All,
I'm thinking of doing a simple paver patio next to my house. In order to do it I will have to strip down a 300 sq ft area by about 6-10 inches. It is a grassy area with nice strong roots.
I'm not really anxious to dig this all up by hand and my fence will not allow me to get a Bobcat or other small excavator in.

Is there a machine out there that could help me with this that will fit through a 4' gate? I was thinking of using a large roto-tiller to loosen everything up and then scoop it out but they don't do well with sod do they?

I'd prefer to pick something up from the local rental center as opposed to buying anything.

rent a sod cutter to remove the sod (maybe re-use it elsewhere?)...
then get a couple of strong backs in there with picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows.

There are sod cutters but I am not sure where you can rent them.

There are also some things called sod kickers which is a tool with wheels and you kick it (like a shovel) to force a cutting blade under the sod. For 300 sq. ft. that may not be such a painful option.

They make Mini excavators that have a 26" footprint (Trac's) un-extended that are made just for this reason,Bobcat # is 416 and Komatsu is 100 both extend to 52".
Load the dirt into a wheel barrow and wheel it out,a lot easier that loading and digging it by hand.
