Laying Sod to start new Lawn over existing one
My lawn is a weedfest., its all sand and no soil and very compact the grouns that is its hard as a rock.. I want to lay down sod, so my question is after I kill all the weeds should I rototill the ground then add top soil then the sod? or should I after killing the weeds just add the top soil then sod. OT rototill or not is the question.

You cannot skip tilling and proper prep or whatever you plant will not take. Have you explored hydroseeding? Much cheaper than sod and will establish faster. Still have to do the prep.

You should get soil tested while at this.

Start with a sod cutter to remove what passes for lawn now
(along with all the weeds and other such problems)

THEN put in some good and soil till it all in; grade and roll as needed
(with fertilizer and other supplements)

THEN get the hydroseed guy in
