Laying sod - question re timing

I know that I'm supposed to wait 1 week after removing existing grass, weeds, debris before laying sod. My question is: How important is that 1 week timeline? What if I wait 2 or 3 weeks? What if I wait less than 7 days?

Thanks for any help you all can give.

Laying sod - question re timing

Not an expert, but if no chemicals were involved, why wait at all??? I can understand a wait if the grass was killed off with chemicals.

Laying sod - question re timing

The only thing we wait for is lunch.

Seriously, I have never heard of waiting a time period before laying sod. Except maybe if a herbicide was used that might effect the root development of the sod. But even at that, I have sprayed glyphosate (41%) over the soil just for insurance and waited maybe two days, but that was more of a scheduling thing of waiting for the sod delivery or maybe waiting a day or so for a rain front to come in and try to lay the sod just before.
