Lawn tractor transmission oil?

A relative just acquired a small riding mower. The manual transmission was apart and need a few small parts. He needs to know what oil/weight is needed before he closes it up?

Lawn tractor transmission oil?

Someone said that it may need grease (bentonite?)
If it is grease then how much should go in the gear box?
