Lawn Sprinkler pump

Hello, I have an old pump I need to replace. I want to buy the same pump since I know it works for my system. The pump is a flotec Thermoplastic Spinkler Pump 1.5 HP that pulls water from the river.

This is a two part questions.

1. For houses that use city water as a source, do they need a pump for the irrigation system? Is so what kind of pump.

2.If yes to number can centrifugal pumps be hooked up to use city water as a source?

thanks

Municipal water supplies typically have enough water pressure and flow rate for residential sprinkler systems.

If you have many acres and large pipe runs you may need a pump to boost pressure or flow. You would have to check with your water company to determine whether this is allowed and what permits you might need. This might be a good time to call a plumber as you will probably need signoffs on the work.

Are you allowed to pull as much water as you want from the river? This seems unusual.

You might want to post your general location to your profile.

Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't do the plumbing work myself since the end result would be calling a plumber anyway. haha. I was just doing a little planning for the future right now.

We are planning to sell our house sometime and will move away from the river and I would still like to have a sprinkler system. So I was just getting some info.

I haven't heard anything about not being able to pull water from the river. Everyone along the riverbanks pull from the river. Sometimes the city has water restriction for use of city water. But I keep pulling from the river no matter what. The river gives you the good and the bad. Damn Floods
