Lawn needs help

We're located in North Carolina near Charlotte. Our lawn is in pretty bad shape. This year we used a chemical to kill all the weeds which ended up being about 75% of our lawn. We have patches of green but mostly brown dead lawn. Being May 5, is it too late too aerate and lay some lime and seed to get something growing so it isn't so brown and dead all summer?

No, it's not too late. It's ideal in the early spring because of all the rain and cool temps, but you can seed now. Just be sure to keep the seed moist by watering early in the morning and/or late in the evening after the sun starts setting depending on the temps. Aerating probably won't do much, so I'd do that in the fall and also reseed then too.

What type of grass? If it is centipede right now is the perfect time to aerate and seed.

Grass growing HELP?

Hello,

I just bought this 1950 house and it has all kind of crazy grasses growing everywhere so I really want to grow new grass. Can someone please help me with the procedure? For instance, should I plow it up and let it dry out or cut all the crazy grown grass and plow it ect....and what is an estimate cost for about 2500 - 3000 sqf of land.

Thank you so much everyone in advance!

Get the soil tested to see what it needs before just throwing seed at it.
Also check out the Scotts web site for some great info.
