How to get Mortar film on pavers?

We layed our pavers and swept in mortar and washed and scrubed pavers. But when pavers dry there is a white film on them and we have colored pavers we already wanted to seal to make darker in color Anyone know how to get this off safely with out lighting the pavers any more?

What kind of pavers? - Interlocking concrete pavers, clay brick or concrete slabs (over 11" in longest dimension)?

If the they are interlocking concrete pavers, you NEVER sweep in mortar.

Did you happen to sweep in polymeric sand?
