How close to a fence should I plan 7 gallon arecas?

They are about 6-7 feet tall and my landscaper (on my instructions) is planting them just like a foot away from my aluminum fence. He claims this is going to be good and won't damage the fence and they will grow well. How close is too close to the fence?

Thanks!

IMO, and only from looking at some pictures of these palms on some sites and since they spread out a bit, I'd do at least 2' to maintain some air space between fence and plant. I wouldn't want the plant to make marks on the fence or be injured rubbing against the fence. Why not call the nursery where you are buying them from what they suggest? Good luck with them!

I know nothing about these trees, other than looking at pictures of them.

How tall are these trees going to grow? What diameter will they grow to? What do their roots do, spread out of go down?

To me, planting 1' from anything seems extremely close.

My brother lives in FL and says he has about 20 of them.
Much like a weed; they require a fair amount of maintenance as they grow and sprout new shoots from the base. His are close to his fence and he said that if they go that way he just cuts them off.
They get about 25' high. So, I guess 1' foot is not too close but I'd still go at least 18"-24" if me.

Thanks, I took some advice above and called a nursery who said 2 feet is about right so I'm looking to go exactly like you said 18-24" at the end of the bed he cut out of the grass just to be safe.

Thanks, I have seen good and bad arecas. So far these are very green, but still young. I hear you just have to fertilize them often and you will be ok.

I'm a northerner so, as I said earlier, I have no experience with Arecas. But I have found that good maintenance is key to the beauty & longevity of just about every shrub and tree.

I would be more concerned with the trees growing onto your neighbor's property. I would not plant anything that would cause a problem down the road where they would need to cut the trees back and it would get you upset.
