Hole in Front Lawn

Anyone have any ideas what could cause a hole like this in a front lawn. A friend of mine came out and saw it this morning.

Thanks for the help!

Does ait look like it is in line where the main water pipe exits the foundation and goes to the street water main? A leak in that pipe could cause the ground to become compacted down below and then cave in.

I think Allen nailed it---go into the basement and see if the water inlet from the street lines up with that hole---also check where the sewer line goes out of the house. Mike

Hole in Front Lawn

Totally thinking water main... Here is a pic of what I had in my driveway/ front lawn. The puddle furthest away started as a hole a little smaller than yours and it filled with water very quickly.

I have a whole series of photos step by step of the fix if interested?
