HELP! Paver Base problem

I'm currently building a 20' diameter paver patio with a fire pit. Never done anything like this. Got my delivery of material and I ordered 3 tons of the wrong base so I'm kinda stuck. The place I bought from told me I could use 3/4" rock. When it showed up it was clean and not the 3/4" minus or road bed that I should be using. Of course I didn't realize this until I had it all spread out in my 20' circle so now I'm in a scramble to figure out how to make it work…

I was thinking i could remove about half of the rock and fill in the remaining depth 2" or so with eithe DG or 3/4" road bed or minus. Will that work?.
