Half Dead Tree

What's the best way to discreetly kill a half dead tree?

Drilling a hole and spraying Roundup?

Digging around the base and pouring bleach on the roots?

* Answers such as chainsaw or chopping it down are not feasible.

Is this tree yours or your neighbors?

A half dead tree is enough of a liability. Why would you want the whole thing dead, but not take it down?

I want to take my chain saw to it, trust me.

But, I want it to be dead first, since it's on open property....right on the border.

Not a neighbor tree, but one in open space....I think roots are partially on my property. I think it's a wild cherry tree.

This doesn't sound Kosher!!!

Anyways I like a good debate over trees and property lines

To do the trick use small copper nails spaced 1 1/2 - 2" apart around the base of the tree...patience is a virtue...voila the living will join the dead in due time

Muriatic acid on the roots or just cut a i inch groove around the trunk and girdle it. Round up will not work unless you can spray the foliage, even then it's iffy.

discreetly dig up a root and load it with copper nails. Or drill it and pour in copper sulphate, then cover it back up and wait. :whistling2:

Where can one buy copper sulphate? Is there a similar commercial product?

Huh?

How can the roots be killed but the tree lives?

Check an agricultural supply place. Copper Sulphate is the stuff they use to control algae in ponds. If you kill the roots, the rest is going with it. I think the stuff in the ad is probably very low concentration and depends on the roots absorbing it. Likely the roots won't absorb enough to kill the tree before the roots die off. I'm talking direct injection. Bore some holes and fill 'em up.
