Ground cover recommendations?

I plan on filling in this with a little dirty and mulch and planting some sort of near to the ground cover. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to plants. Any recommendations . I live in zone 6.

I love hostas but be careful about how much dirt and mulch you put on the trunk of the tree.

I guess hostas aren't really ground cover but they do grown in thick. Are you looking for something that will completely cover the ground?
