Grass seed and climate

Hello:
I have a large patch of dirt that I'd like to plant some grass seed in. I'm in the midwest - Missouri. What temps should I wait for before planting the grass seed? Typically around what month would it be a good idea?

thanks

-Ed

I've read that grass seed won't germinate unless the soil temperature is consistently above 60F.
