good climbers for pergola

We have a great pergola over part of our deck under which we have a table/chairs. The pergola has a well established cover of confederate jasmine which looks nice, but is sooo messy. It is constantly shedding leaves and requires sweeping the deck at least twice a day if we wish to be out there.
We are in coastal SC (zone 9). Has anyone used wisteria in this way? Is it any less messy? Any other suggestions for a good climbing vine?
Thanks!

good climbers for pergola

I have two swings in my backyard in S. GA., each has an arbor over it that has wisteria growing on it. We love the smell of wisteria, and it does make a good shade cover. The only petty problem I have had with wisteria is that it seems to be a favorite resting place for King snakes. My wife, daughter, daughter-in-law are not fond of these swings but I and my grandsons ususally have them to ourselves. That's my two cents worth, David

Not sure how well they'll do but clemetis or morning glories might be an option, and/or grapes would make good shade.
