Getting pond ready for winter?
I live in NJ. The temp now is around 55 deg and nighttime low is around 35-40 deg.
I have a small 60 gal. kidney bean shaped pond.
I have a pump/uv light/filter combo that sits at the bottom of the pond.
This past weekend I threw out the plants that we had in the pond. I also shut off the pump and filter.
I noticed that there is a lot of algea and brown crud on the sides of the pond and there was also a lot on the pump/filter body.
What else should I do to get the pond ready for the winter? Should I take the pump out of the water and store it in the shed? Should I clean the pond now or wait until the spring?
I live in PA. and have a 90 gal pond. I normally don't shut off the pond filter untill mid Janurary and the fish do find every spring. I leave the pump and filter in the al year long.
