Hey what do I do to get rid of the hundreds of flies on the side of my house that swarm the catfood and trash? I thought venus fly trap but I would need like 20 of them... Then I thought spiders but I dont know where to buy them... Any suggestions?

keep the area as clean as possible and they will disappear. They are probably feeding off of the garbage and catfood.

You think? Of course the flies are feeding off the catfood and trash. The trash can cannot be moved it is a huge think that only the trash truck can lift. And my neighbors will not relocate the cat food bowl until I take them to court for my cats getting worms. So in the meantime I am looking for a solution.

Taking them to court is kind of extreme, but does your area not have by-laws or health dept. standards that govern these types of things? You can't have maggoty garbage lying around all week. Call your local township office and they will send someone, hopefully.

OR..get some cans of bug spray and at least cut way back on the population from time to time.

Good old fashioned fly paper. Leave it for the neighbors when full. A pest strip, fastened to the inside top of the garbage receptacle MAY help some.

go to walmart and get the "big bag fly trap". it has more volume then the fly paper but is a little more expensive. you will be able to decrease their numbers but you will never be able to get rid of the problem.

are the cats feral that your neighbor feeds, or are they actually their cats? if they are feral trap them and take them to the spca.

thehvacguy 06-18-2012 11:52 AM

Unfortunately the cats are not feral. They are my neighbors cats. I actually saw these things that are like containers that the flies go into and cant come out. Im gonna try it out. But just in case does anyone know where to buy spiders?

creeper 06-18-2012 12:01 PM

Spiders?? Is this a joke? So now you're going to have sider webs all over the place? How many flies do you figure one little arachnid can eat.

malt0se 06-18-2012 12:57 PM

easy. he'll just buy lizards to eat the spiders

creeper 06-18-2012 01:02 PM

Then it will be Komodo Dragons to eat the lizards. They will take care of the cats too, and anything else that moves.

They're was an old lady that swallowed a fly.....

malt0se 06-18-2012 01:21 PM

he should skip the lizards and spiders and go right for the komodo dragons. they would take care of the cats, and thus his fly problem

user1007 06-18-2012 01:24 PM

Pest control should always be a measured and appropriate response to the problem. In this case, I say nuke em! Flies, cats, neighbors and everything. Cheaper than a small claims suit and easier than calling animal control to put some pressure on? Immediate gratification?

Lol you guys are weird man. Btw I dont care if the spider actually eats the flies, just as long as his web catches them... Id rather deal with spider webs than flies...
