Flex Pipe and irrigation

In looking at some Orbit sprinkler plans, they say to connect the sprinkler heads via the use of 1/2 inch flex pipe.

Do they suggest this just because it gives you more flexibility in locating the final head position? or is there possibly some code reason?

I dont understand why you just cant go from pvc supply to a pvc elbow and then the sprinkler head, or can you?

Thanks

The flex does give you flexibility for the head placement. You can go straight with PVC. It's just harder to get the final grade right.

Having the short section of flexible pipe also presents breaking the main PVC line if someone hits the sprinkler head hard with a riding mower or something similar. If the head is direct connected to the PVC any such blow would likely break the PVC and cause a major problem to repair.
