electric starter

I have an Ariens 824 with an electric start. When I press the electric start it sounds like it just turns and not make contact. So, I can't start it with the electric starter but can pull start it. Can I just replace the box on top with the plug, or do I have to replace the whole thing that goes into the engine.??
Thanks
Barry

Ayuh,... From your discription, the switch is workin' just Fine...
The starter, mounted to the motor, sounds like It's the Problem....
Probably the bendix drive end is stripped, or broken...
Take it off, 'n have a look...

electric starter

Ok I just watched a video on how to take off the starter..seems pretty easy...how can i check if I need to replace the starter or just fix it somehow??? And where would be the best place to pick one up, on-line is an option, since I can still pull start it, I'm not in a terrible rush.
thanks
Barry
