Drip System Questions
I`m going to install a drip system this fall. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for tunneling under sidewalks and driveways? I have heard of people using a water hose and pvc pipe to burrow underneath without tearing up the lawn to bad. The sidewalk is 4ft. and the circle drive is 20ft in width.I was wondering if there any tools to dig without tearing up the lawn to bad? I need to bury the 1/2 in. pvc at least 6 in down.
thanks in advance!
The sidewalk should be easy - you just need to go two feet from each side. Yes, the water hose attached to piece of PVC will work, but will make a lot of mud. You can dig two feet under a sidewalk with a narrow shovel. Make sure to put a larger piece of PVC under the sidewalk when you fill it back in, to use as a sleeve for the irrigation pipe - so you won't have to do any digging if there's a problem in the future.
As for the driveway - 20 feet??!! Yikes - you'll have to trench across it - Or, Go around it, if it's a circle.
ps - Because the price difference is miniscule, I'd advise going with 3/4 inch PVC instead of 1/2". It carries twice the flow (8 GPM vs 4 GPM). Use Schedule 40 for your mainline; Class 200 for laterals.
