drainage question

Do some drainage systems or french drains end in the ground and with no drywell at all ?
i have a pipe coming off the downspout (black flexable) and it travels along side of home and i dont see a end anywhere .I also see the top of it about 15 ft away also..
Im trying to figure out the best wat to drain it away since the hills on neighbors sides come toward me.
thanks
