Drainage ditch help please.

Hello! My husband had installed a small drainage ditch leading away from our house for runoff water from our roof. It runs about 12 feet, is 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep. It continually fills with leaves, and on occasion, eventhough I know it is there, I catch my foot in it and we have another sprained ankle!!! I am thinking of filling it in with some rock.. but not sure if this would work, or if I try, what size rock to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank You

Why don't you have your husband make it wider, say 3 feet wide, with gently sloping sides? That way he gets some work, and you will not sprain your ankle.

Well, that is a thought, however it is just me now and digging right now for me is not an option.
