Dethatchers

So in about a month I'm going to dethatch my new home's yard. And from the looks of it, this will be the first time this yard will have this done. lol.

I have a Husqvarna YTH24K4, so I was thinking of trying to get away with a "pull behind" style dethatcher that you just put weights on top of. Has anyone had much luck with these style dethatchers? If so, which models?

I really don't want to go out and buy a gas powered dethatcher.... I'm pretty sure that's overkill for me (I have a litle over half an acre).

I have one that looks like this that works fine.
I then go back over it with my Trac Vac that sucks up all the thatch.

Where I have lived, there are dethatcher and aeration services crawling over each other 100 deep looking for business. At one point in N California I thought I was going to have to de-thatch just for all the door knob flyers that blew on to the front lawn! Are you sure buying a piece of equipment that might not be robust enough to do the job is justified if the market is as filled with service providers where you are? Aren't you going to want aerate too? I would get some estimates before buying equipment.

The service I used had nice, sharp, heavy golf course or park quality equipment. Their crews raked and hauled off all the thatch and optionally, the aerated plugs. All I had to do was rake in much needed organic matter to fill the plugs. Doing so, I was able to break up the heavy clay over the years.

And a dethatching or aerating attachment for a lawn tractor is a nasty thing to stub your toe on and you will with it sitting around but for how many hours every year?
