Crepe Myrtle - in Texas??

I love my crepe myrtles, but worry that they take too much battering from the sun here in Texas. Does anyone have any suggestions for a hardier but just as attractive option? I'd rather have a yard of species that can thrive here than attempt to coax those that can't.... Thank you!

Drive around town, they do very well here with no special care.

Yeah, they grow totally fine here. I've been trying to get rid of a couple in my front yard for a year and no matter what I do, they keep coming back, dang it.

Crepe Myrtle - in Texas??

I have had success with the Crepe Myrtle trees that I have planted. One looked like it wasnt going to make it,no leaves, I left it alone and now it is over 15 ft tall.
I cant think of a hardier or less invasive tree.
