chainsaw repair
Has anyone ever replace the starter spring on a chainsaw? Poulan is the brand.

I have.... why? Is this a survey?

I was looking for specific tips on how not to unwind the spring when you put it back in the cover with the cord spindle.

Go to a repair shop and see if they have a used cord unit. You'll just unscrew the old unit and slip on the new/used one, the spring will not enter the picture. Easiest way, and you won't get cut up when that spring explodes.....

I have already gotten the spring and put it into the housing. I'm just not sure on how to get tension back on the pull cord so it will recoil after it is pulled from the housing. The starter just spins freely in there right now. Will the spring catch if I just rotate the starter in the direction of the recoil until it maxes out?

It should, if not, can you take a pic or two to show what you're dealing with? That always helps here. Po)

Ok, I will try that when I get home tonight or in the morning. I will get a pic of the spring in the housing and post it too.
