Building stone base around 4x4

I am going to upgrade my 4x4 post on my porch. I want a stone base about 3 feet high? and then I am going to make tapered column appearance on top to hide the 4x4.

What is the best method for the stone base?

1) Build out a boxed frame with 2x4, plywood, water shield, then cement board?

2) Cinder blocks?

3) Saw this method on tv. Stack pavers and use glue?

The post current sit on sonotubes. What would be the best method listed above? How high should I make the stone base dimensions of the box?

I have to pour a base around the sonotube. How thick should I pour my concrete pad & dimensions?
