Best weed control?

I'm about to place mulch down in the front across the other side of the side walk & was thinking maybe I should lay down some of them weed sheets & nail them down somehow & then lay the mulch, yet wonder if there's any other tricks I might want to do before spreading the mulch?

Preen maybe?

Gasoline?

whats the best prep?

Thanks.

Use Peen, landscape cloth is less then useless.
I strongly sugest not using something like hardwood much.
It molds up, decomposes and makes great furtilizer for weeds.
Use cypruss instead.
It repels insects, and takes a whole lot longer to decompose.

Cypruss mulch?

Got any links for me to learn more about that?

I just did a google search & it looks the same, so thanks for the tip.

Unless you have permission from the city or highway dept. you should not be doing anything in that area.

Here in Los Angeles that is considered the home owners responsibility yet we don't actually own it.

Uh oh. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have taken the soil away.. Put it back quick...

Joe is right, usually you can't mess on the opposite side of the walkway. If you are lucky you could get away with the mulch, on TOP of the exisiting soil.

River rock would look nice there too

I'm not worried about it, tomorrow morning it will be all replaced with mulch & no one will ever know it ever happened.

Typical..You can't change it, but let the grass remain uncut and see how fast they squawk

I would put rock or grass there. The mulch is going to decompose regardless of wood type and is going to provide a home for weeds.

Well I'm almost done with the one side & decided to spend a little more & I'm using rubber mulch, the color is suppose to last 12 years & wont decompose like real wood.

On my way back to get more.
Its more than twice the price but is it saves me from having to do it again any time soon It'll be money well spent.
