Backyard drainage

On both property lines I get standing water when it rains. :( I recently installed a dogeared fence and noticed that 24" down is clay and shale.
My questios is, if I dig a trench on both property lines and backfill with
gravel and perf pipe will this take care of the problem?

Is there a lower area where this will then drain?
Or will it lead to an area without the clay layer?

Probably, if the water in the french drain is removed to another location. Either by gravity or a sump pump. Put one in that can be easily cleaned: http://www.easydigging.com/Drainage/pipe_tile.html

If needed: http://www.easydigging.com/Drainage/..._soakaway.html

Be safe, G

Unfortunately these are both low laying areas and I was hoping for some meracle seepage. One side is baracaded by a garage foundation the other is blocked by a 65' pine tree.
:(

If you can dig down past the clay & use gravel in the drainage ditch then it might help
It all depends upon what is under the clay as far as soil
Of course of the shale goes down deep then your outta luck
Can you install a sump pump & pump it to the other side of the garage?

Where do your downspout go?? If you have them tied into an underground drainage pipe I would put in a rigid drain pipe and tie into it.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have a lot of irons in the fire here. By the way, whats a down spout? (hehe) I discovered that if the rain lets up
for a day, the standing water dissapates which tells me there is some drainage.
