Natural pools are growing in popularity in the US and are quite nice. Among other things, once established they have lower maintenance and chemical costs.
I vowed never to have one because I did not want the responsibility or expense of taking care of my own pool having taken care of community versions in high school and college years. I did design many into landscapes and really liked black bottom ones. I suspect if you would really use your pool it could be a good landscape addition.
You should list what you really want from your landscape and what you are willing to commit to it in terms of both time and money. If you come up with the fact you would really find yourself barbecuing around the pool you might be better off leaning toward the outdoor kitchen trend and downscaling to some sort of water or fire feature, or just a jacuzzi, rather than a full blown pool.
Do make sure you understand the commitment you need to make to a pool before committing to one. The library will have books on pool design and cost or stop by a pool designer in your area for a candid chat.
