The days are shorter, the evenings are cooler, and, for many of us, it's time to be draining and rolling up the hoses, clean up the garden, and start dealing with leaves. I am always amazed at the number of people who, when it's time to start closing the windows, decide to be on the inside looking out, rather than enjoying the beauty of the fall. But, getting to the point, how do you deal with leaves? Everyone's circumstances are different, and yes, the lawn mower will soon be tucked away for the winter, but if you have been putting it off, now may be the ideal time to invest in a mulching kit for your mower, which can make quick work of leaves, as well as introduce nutrients into your lawn. Or maybe it's time to start that compost pile that you have always wanted. Yeah, rambling I know, but a couple of thoughts anyway.
I run them over with the lawn tractor. The worms appreciate the food and the soil appreciates the worm casings.
The veg and flowers get thrown into the middle of the veg patch and covered over with soil. They will be dissolved by next planting season, with the exception of the most hardiest of stalkes, but I will plant new crops right on top anyway and they will compost in due time.
