Atrazine and Bahia


Change of plans on lawn, how long after spreading Atrazine can I reseed with Bahia?

Given its pre and post emergent herbicidal properties, you will probably have to wait at least a growing season now if seeding is what you had in mind. Sod might take but you would be risking a fair amount of change. Can you pick up a trial piece of sod? You will know in short order if it dies because of the herbicide.

Atrazine is a cheap and effective herbicide and among the most used in the World at least on ag crops. It is totally banned in the European Union now though because of concerns about water contamination, unusually high incidents of birth defects, irregular menstruation in women near measurable amounts of runoff, even with measured concentrations well below the accepted government limits, etc. Be careful with the stuff.
