Any ideas how to release the Blu-Lock "quick release" collars?

I'm needing to move a few sprinkler heads in our yard and the landscapers used Blu-Lock supplies.

Unfortunately, I can't figure out to save my life how to release the so-called "quick release" collar (go figure).

I've pushed, pulled, twisted, hammered, plier-ed, and screamed at these things trying to get them apart.

So, anyone had any experience with this stuff?

Don't those sprinkler heads require a special tool?

The sprinkler heads do not. It's not the sprinkler heads I'm having a problem with. It's the "quick release" collar on the piping/elbows/adapters.
