3rd gear on mower does not work

I have a John Deere 6.75 HP 21" walk-behind rotary mower (self propelled) model JS63C. My 3rd gear does not work. I cannot find a fix topic in the Troubleshooting section of the User's manual. Any ideas how to fix?

I do not have one, but based on your description, and assuming that everything else is working, I can only think of two things that it might be. First I would look at the belt, and the hardware that engages and disengages it. Does everything move freely, and is the belt in good shape? Second, I assume that there is an adjustable linkage for the various speeds, and if so, perhaps you need to loosen a lock nut, and then shorten or lengthen the shift rod, to compensate for whatever stretching has occurred in the belt. Since you said there is nothing in the troubleshooting section, I would also look at the "pre-delivery" section in the front of the manual, as it seems that these adjustments would be there.
