Window installation advice

This will be my first time installing a window. We picked up a nice almost new window at Habitat for Humanity for a good price that does not have the nailing fins on the outside. Do I make my own or is there some way to install the window without this flange?

I will be removing two larger old windows and dropping in this newer smaller window so I can fit in a shower for my bathroom rehab. I will obviously have to build my own rough opening.

I would appreciate any other advice and possible Web DIY window install videos any of you know of. Thanks in advance for the help.

Vinyl or wood?? As suggested, finding a fin would make things easier, and it properly locates the window in the opening. Without a fin, you can nail a stop on the opening, and install screws thru the sides.

I assume you have a proper header for the opening??

The exterior of the window is vinyl and the inside is wood. I thought I would have to attach some frame to the window, but you seem to be saying I can attach somehing to the frame.

Is there room for a brick mold where the 'nailing flange' meets the sheathing?
Might need to custom build the brick mold to fit the space you have available on the outside of the wall.
Use a drip edge flashing above.
