What kind of wall for tiling bathroom and shower

I am in the process of tiling the entire bathroom of ours. It currently has a 4 piece tub (3 walls+tub) and we are going to replace the tub because it squeaks. We are also going to eliminate the acrylic walls or whatever material it is and place tile there.

It is my understanding that you pull the tub out and walls, install 1/2" cementboard to the studs and fiberglass tape everything up. Once you apply the fiberglass tape what do you cover it with?

Also, the rest of the bathroom is covered with drywall and we want to have tiled walls. Do we need to remove the walls or can we tile on top of the drywall with some kind of surface prep? The drywall is currently painted. Does greenboard enter the picture?

Any help would be great.

This is a picture of the bathroom, kinda hard to get a good pic.

What kind of wall for tiling bathroom and shower

In the shower I use a product by Schulter, called Kerdi. It's a water proof membrane that gets applied with unmodified thinset. Then you tile on top of this.
For the non wet areas, I would just tile on the existing drywall as long as the walls were straight and plumb.
