Wanting to finish basement!

Hey there! We just bought a house and we are looking into finishing the basement. so that we can have more bedrooms. It's an open space but we are having a hard time making a decision on is the furance and waterheater which is in the middle of the basement below the stairs. I think we can just box in the area but my husband doesn't think we can or should.....What would you all do or say?

i wouldnt necessarily 'box' it in but design the outside perimeter of the room to keep them on the outside. My waterheaters and furnace are in the middle of the basement so I walled the moff from the main room b/c you want to make sure they are accessible and have enough space around them.

There's a difference between using a basement as a rec room and using it for bedrooms - completely different set of considerations (like escape routes, etc)..

good luck, its tons of fun to finish a basement

"Box-in" the water heater: Ok with a door that allows service and replacement.

"Box-in" a heater (furnace/heating system): Only if there is going to be sufficient air exchange (venting-required by code) for the system and also allowable servicing room (around the unit).
