Wallpaper Removal [Forgot Where I Posted Before]
1 Attachment(s)
Attached I hope is a picture of a small area that I removed the wallpaper from in a bathroom.

It appears that maybe some of the drywall paper is coming off with the wall paper, but none of the gypsum is showing.

Is it safe to continue to remove the wall paper or would I be better off to stop now, prime it and apply texture over it.

How did you remove it so far? Just rip the loose stuff or did your try paper remover and steamer? I removed 3 layer of waper (first layer installed circa 1967) using a combination of remover and steamer. Amazingly, it all came off with a bit of elbow grease, with minimal scarring to the drywall. A little bit of skim-coating and the wall was ready to paint.

Good luck, but I think you should try to remove it....

So far I used one of those wallpaper alligators, a putty knife, and fabric softener mixed half-and-half with hot water. It has come off pretty easy. There is only one layer of wallpaper. I was concerned about damaging the drywall.

The fabric softner is good substitute, but I would still get a good quality remover from a specialty paint store like Ben Moore or the like...

I also bought a steamer... it cost me only $50 from HD and it worked like a charm...

I'd be carefull with the aligators, they do nick up the wall a bit....

I used a product called Diff when I had to remove a couple of layers. I was pretty nervous about pulling it down since it was put up poorly in the first place. It worked great and I had no problems at all. Hope that helps!
