Vinyl siding installation question (with pictures)

Hello,

I want to install some vinyl siding on a 'hut' I built. Issue at hand is the starter strip, as my base has a straight and angled part to it.

Could I simply use a piece of starter on the bottom straight part and then use a J trim for the upward angle part by the stairs? Id have to cut the vinyl to an angle, and maybe add another furring strip to help secure it (the upward jtrim part), but Im hoping that would work.

Heres a pic of the straight starter, just picture the jtrim on the upward angle...

I asked a neighbor, and he suggested that I run the starter strip further in, and add a spacer to anchor it to the cement wall. Im not as keen on this method..

What do you guys/gals think?

Thanks.

Why the batten strips on the wall?

I would wrap the fashia, soffit and any other trim with coil stock with coil stock before the siding goes on.
Any windows or doors will need a piece of Z moulding on the top of them before the J moulding goes up..

For looks I would use J all across the bottom and top.
Drill some weep holes in it.

Vinyl siding installation question (with pictures)

Hi again,

I want to install some soffit under the little roof overhang right above the door. I imagine for this part, it would be best to install the siding up to top, and then install the soffit? Or should I install soffit before hand, and then install a jtrim over that and have the siding run up into that?

Hard to explain..heres a photo

or
----

where a ] is a piece of siding and the --- is the soffit. First one is with soffit installed first, and siding with jtrim but up to it. Second option has the siding installed first, no jtrim at top, and then soffit butts up to the, and Id use an aluminum jtrim for the soffit?

Thanks

Soffit is nailed up first, then fashia, all the trim then the siding
I do the tops of my walls a little differant. I use 1/2 J moulding, then install a piece of utility trim up inside of it upside down.
When you get to the last piece you mark and cut it to width, and punch it with a pair of snap loc plyers, http://malcoproducts.com/product/roo...lock-punches-a
Now it will snap in place and never fall out.

If you use the J on the angle make sure you leave room between it and the starter strip for any water that can get in, gets out at the bottom before it gets into the horizontal section of siding.

A simple cut out in the bottom of the J so no one sees it will work for a drain hole.
