vinyl sidig

I am having new vinyl siding installed the kind that has styrafoam on it already but they are not wrapping it first is that ok? I live in michigan the quote was the same as all the other ones. I have wood clapboard on it now so it will be going over it.

Why? Your going to pay at least double what reguler siding would cost and gain almost nothing in R value.
There's going to be air leaks at all the seams and every outside and inside corner.

joes right,, the only real purpose of that foam is to make it more resiliant so it doesnt lose its shape

The lady I'm living with fell for the "insulated" siding scam.
It's made 0 differance in the heating and cooling cost, and she paid three times as much a reguler siding job would have cost and it threw all the windows and door trims off because all the trim needed to be wider to fit the new siding.
She could have had .045 thick siding installed and had the same look and saved over $5000.00.

and a lot of people will read Joe's post #4 and say, "wow, why didn't they tell me that before selling it to me?"

No, it is not ok, houswrap or builders paper/equivalent is required per code minimum;
