Venting OTR microwave
I'm remodeling my kitchen, and adding an OTR micro. there's an existing vent that goes through the roof which I was going to use for the microwave exhaust vent. But the only problem I run into is a manually switch in-line venting fan. C

Can I just have the fan run throug there and leave the in-line fan in? or should I dismantle it and take out the fan guts? Or redo the whole sheetmetal job?

thanks for any help

Not my area of expertise, but I would opt for gutting the old inline. Seems to me if you don't turn on the inline while using the microwave, you're not getting the full benefit of the vent. And if/when, one day down the line, the inline fan craps out, it's kind of an obstruction in your vent.........just my opinion. (And I'd just take out the fan if the sheetmetal itself is sound.)

How far away from the microwave is the roof? The booster fan might be there because the run was too long for previous exhaust system. An OTR micro doesn't have a fan that's too strong so the booster fan might be a good idea. If the current fan is old, I would put in a new one.
