Vent dryer exhaust to roof

i am adding dryer hookups to my house that previously only had washer hookups.

i have laundry is located in the center of the house, and I am very limited in space to run exhaust to the side of the house. All the instructions I've read for dryer exhaust says to run it out the side. Is there anything wrong with running up through roof? What kind of exhaust hood would I need?

You should run it to the closest exit point. The one with the fewest turns. The longer the run, the least effective the exhaust. Any plumbing supply can sell you a cap. Just remove the screen or it will clog up with lint in a heartbeat.

i think going to the roof will be the shortest. I just wanted to be sure that it was allowed because based on my research, it seems that nobody ever does that.

The only issue I can think of for a dryer vent in the roof is that you will have to go up there to clean off the lint periodically. Side vents are generally more accessable. I second the screen removal suggestion.

Just about every time a dryer is on the second floor, I put the vent through the roof.
