Vacation Home garage conversion
Hello, I am about to start a garage conversion at our vacation home in VT. Although this is not a DIY project for me, I am getting involved in the design and trying to make sure some of the "tricky" parts are done right. That's where I'm looking for any advice available.
The home has a 2 car garage that currently is drywalled and has radiant heat in the slab. We only have 2 bedrooms and don't really need a garage, so the conversion seems to be a great solution.
We looked at many options and have settled on leaving the garage doors in place and building a wall inside and trimming around the existing window area.
The doors are "Carriage house" style and look great, so we figured it makes more sense to work with them then spend all our budget filling in the opening.
This is the exterior of the home....
My question is this...
What is the best way to insure the garage door remains weather proof?
We are planning on using a gasket under the door, and will do some exterior grading to keep water running away, but any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
