Unfinished Cabinets

I'm looking to put in a budget kitchen and I'm wondering how difficult it is to stain and seal unfinished cabinets? I'm not as concerned about the time it will take as much as the quality of the finished product. How realistic is it that they will turn out like store bought finished cabinets? Are they worth the time or just a waste of money?

Unfinished Cabinets

Unless you have spraying equipment, it is doubtful you can equal a factory finish. Unfinished cabinets are usually better construction than cheap finished cabinets, but finishing is not easy. You have to decide the trade off. A cheap cabinet is still a cheap cabinet, and replacing a kitchen is not somethings that is done often. If you don't plan on staying in the house, cheap is OK.
