Tile over ceramic

We are looking to put stone tiles over an existing ceramic tile fireplace surround and would like to know if there is an adhesive that can be used for this tough application?

Tile over ceramic

i would pull the ceramic off and start from fresh, but if you are looking for quicker and don't mind covering it up then really you could use just a strong construction adhesive like pl400 or similar. if you are going to grout it i would definitely pull off the tiles. the mortar would just crack off , maybe not right away but eventually.
