suggestion on adding insulation
currently redoing my basement - block wall about 3ft tall (just above grade) with studded wall with craft faced isulation ontop of that. Will be reframing new walls slightly away from the block wall. I have read that you should place craft faced over craft faced insulation as it could collect moisture. In order to save time and money, would like to leave the existing insulation in place. If I were to cut slits up and down, would that be enough to allow moisture past through. Or should I just bite the bullet and replace with unfaced?
Slash the kraft face to destroy any sort of vapor barrier/vapor retardant properties it mght have.
You cannot allow any moisture/vapor to get into fiberglass since it never dries out, holds moisture and can add to mold growth.
